Seiko says neon will outshine metallic

Seiko Instruments (Hall 9, stand E25) is to introduce an inkset that includes neon colours, which it said would be more cost-effective and brighter than using metallic alternatives.

Product manager Stephanie Rohn said that unlike with metallic inks, the printer won’t need to be slowed down to use neon inks. The new inkset will only be compatible with Seiko printers, but Rohn said it would work on any model. The product will come in CMYK plus neon yellow and pink and is expected to be launched in August or September.

“As far as I know we’re the only company providing this at the moment,” Rohn said. A price has yet to be set, but it will probably be about twice the price of normal ink, according to Rohn. The neon ink can be used for indoor and outdoor applications, Rohn said, although Seiko is still testing the range’s lightfast characteristics.
