CylHub – the new storage and service hub Having arrived at the end of the value chain, many old cylinders, according to current practice, are stored at the printers and thus also incur costs.

With its new CylHub concept, Janoschka is forging alternative and above all sustainable approaches. Value creation and optimal re-use of recycled cylinders are the key points: CylHub is in particular encouraging the exchange of recycled cylinders between printers and is acting as a central service hub and handling facility.

The advantages for the printers are obvious: immediate availability of the cylinders, favourable purchase prices, saving on storage costs and reactivation of previously idle capital.

proROTO system: the innovative rotogravure sleeve There are plenty of reasons for developing new and above all sustainable concepts for an alternative to conventional cylinder bases requiring 175 kg of steel each.

At Drupa 2012, Janoschka is unveiling an innovative approach in the form of an alternative rotogravure cylinder system. A sleeve comprised of a thin metallic layer with a plastic polymer layer provides the optimal properties and conditions for a lower-cost and weight-reduced solution.

The customer benefits from wider circumferential variability compared to thin-layer sleeves.

This printing forme can be used throughout the entire prepress process, and it is compatible with gravure printing sleeve systems already on the market.Use of the sleeve solution in narrow-web gravure printing presses and in existing plating and engraving facilities is supported by a novel mandrel concept with CFRP components.

The third part of this innovation is an adapter, which is currently under development and which provides the switching element between the mandrel and the sleeve. The idea here is to further reduce the material and weight of the gravure printing forme itself.

There will be a live demo of the new system at Drupa, at 2pm daily.

The new concept is being developed predominantly in the R&D Centre of Sächsische Walzengravur Frankenberg, a long-time subsidiary of Janoschka with expert know-how when it comes to thin-layer carrier solutions.

Innovation Day for Tobacco Packaging

Innovation Day for Tobacco Packaging Kippenheim, April 5th, 2012. End of March Janoschka was hosting its first Innovation Day at its headquarters with numerous customers and representatives of the prepress supply chain.

Only a few weeks prior to the industry’s biggest fair in Düsseldorf, Janoschka was hosting its first Innovation Day for Tobacco Packaging in its headquarters in Kippenheim/DE. Guests of the exclusive Drupa preview were clients and partners of the supply chain for packaging printing in the tobacco market.
Innovative laser technologies for cylinder production for rotogravure printing and embossing, RFID solutions for cylinder tracking, in-house UV drying and the state-of-the-art software innovation CrossProof for 3D simulation of embossing forms were on the agenda. IPT International Plating Technologies was featuring the suject of sustainable trends for engraving materials. The company tour gave an insight into the manufacture of print and embossing formes with a yearly production volume of close to 45.000 cylinders.

The highlight of the event was the very first live demo of Janoschka’s innovative rotogravure sleeve system to the trade public: proROTO system. A sleeve comprised of a thin metallic layer with a plastic polymer layer, called proROTO sleeve, provides the optimal properties and conditions for a lower-cost and weight-reduced solution. The system is supported by a novel mandrel concept with CFRP components and an adapter.

There will be a daily Live Demo of the system at 2pm, on Drupa stand 3D54.

The Innovation Day for Tobacco Packaging took place under the auspices of the Janoschka Academy, a new Janoschka institution offering customers, marketing managers, printers, students and employees a very wide variety of formats for further personal advancement.

APE Malaysia to offer embossing services

APE Malaysia to offer embossing services Kippenheim, January 2012. To make its portfolio of products and services for the Tobacco business perfect, APE Malaysia will integrate embossing facilities into its shop floor in the medium term. Production start is planned for the end of the second quarter 2012.

The embossing technology will be based on the direct laser Digilas from Schepers, one of the state-of-the-art systems for direct laser engraving and embossing. This investment is mainly focusing on the market of tobacco packaging where finishing elements like embossing features are essential. Tobacco customers will benfit from a full service including graphic services, rotogravure tooling and embossing cylinders.

Janoschka Izmir

Janoschka Izmir Kippenheim, 2 February 2012. Janoschka Izmir is the youngest branch of Janoschka. It is also the first in the Eurasian region and confirms Janoschka’s consistent strategy of internationalisation.
Based in the Cigli district of the city of Izmir, the industrial cluster for gravure package printing in Turkey, Janoschka Izmir will serve the packaging market for FMCG and tobacco products with gravure cylinders and graphics services.
Production will start in February in the 2,500 m² production facilities. As a wholly Janoschka owned, Janoschka Izmir will serve the Turkish market with the usual service and product quality.
Janoschka Izmir is the 26th production site. Janoschka products, service and quality are currently available in 13 countries in Europe, Central and South America and Southeast Asia.

Located at the production site in Kippenheim, Björn Kammertöns is in charge of the project management on structural and operational level and its coordination on customer side. Ever since closely related with rotogravure, Björn Kammertöns was the Vice President Sales Flexible Packaging at Wetzel before.

EcoBase

Among the recent Janoschka in-house developments is a new concept of a cylinder base of the latest generation for shaft-less cylinders. The state-of-the art solution EcoBase is a new lightweight base with many advantages for the printers, such as efficiency improvement in production flow, easy handling, reduced set-up times, reduced transport and storage cost due to its reduced weight.

Tactile decors

Tactile surfaces by means of embossing or lacquers have become a common standard for FMCG packaging, and it has moved into the focus of the furniture and floor industry as well.

Alternatively to the conventional pressing plates on the decor market, Janoschka is now presenting the latest state-of-the-art solution. By means of lasered rubber rollers a tactile varnish may be applied to the decor. The given structured dimension ensures an authentic character comparable to the original. Printing it in register even allows the structure to be synchronized with the printed design which intensifies the realistic impression any more.

Customers definitely profit of a flexible and attractive all-round solution. Different structures are available short term and the lacquer coating and hence the tactile intensity may vary. Compared to the price of a pressing plate the investment for the user in a rubber roller is manageable.

Not only wood, but also phantasy, leather, tissue and stone textures can be realized with this new technology.

Safe is safe

Anti-counterfeiting security is imperative when printing banknotes and official documents. However, security applications can also protect against product piracy or emphasise the exclusive nature of a brand.

State-of-the-art Laser technologies

Since the introduction of the Daetwyler DLS technology back in 2000 at Janoschka at the latest, Janoschka is regarded as the pioneer when it comes to prepress process technologies. By implementing the state-of-the-art laser systems Cellaxy (Hell) and Digilas (Schepers) in its production standards, this leading position has been more than confirmed by Janoschka.

After having successfully introduced and developed maturity phase of the Cellaxy direct laser for embossing and printing cylinders, the current Digilas tests done at Janoschka also promise an efficient and successful operation of the new Schepers technology.

Both systems for the production of printing and embossing cylinders offer various application choices and hence highest flexibility: it is possible to laser into aluminum, copper and zinc. The high resolution and a laser spot of 10µ enable three-dimensional modeling and micro prints for embossing. Moreover, process-optimized workflows within the cylinder production ensure even shorter production times that result in quick and flexible lead times for the customer.

Thus, the scope of application is quickly told: demanding packaging of each kind for FMCG products, security elements and special applications in the flexible packaging sector, and of course the Tobacco industry.

The second Digilas system at all on the German market is being operated at the Janoschka production site in Kippenheim, Germany. The Cellaxy technology was implemented into the production workflow of the Janoschka subsidiary Sächsische Walzengravur/SWG Frankenberg near Dresden, Germany.

Investment in digital printing

Janoschka has recently closed a deal for a considerable investment into its own digital printing machine, which will go into operation by November 2011 in Schutterwald, Southern Germany.

The reproduction of decors, no matter if stone, wood or phantasy has always been a core competence of Janoschka. A market that has been served by the international network since its establishment in the seventies. The production of rotogravure cylinders for floor or wood paneling is daily business of the prepress supplier, just as decor design and its graphic realization.

However, individual room concepts that convince by its very personal design do not require big printing runs. So digital printing comes into play leaving all designers wide leeway for creativity, and with a reasonable price in production establishing more and more on the market.

Janoschka proves its commitment within this market by investing in its own digital printing machine type Durst RHO700. The experienced printer o+h Sieb- und Digitaldruck GmbH in Schutterwald (www.oh-gmbh.de) is cooperation partner, and the machine will go on line in its premises in Schutterwald, Southern Germany.

It goes without saying that standard materials like glass, paper, or melamine may be printed but also metal can serve as printing material. A special process ensures the printing stability and its resistance against wear and tear. Hence the wide choice of printing materials offers many alternatives in application.
