DoNet, Building a digital workflow with Komori DoNet
05.05.2008

The DoNet digital workflow maximizes the benefits of CIP4/JDF and optimizes the production environment. With the basic MIS system, CTP, and a digital workflow, all printing tasks, from short run work to long run jobs, can be accomplished with JDF-compliant Komori presses. And CIP4/JDF enables integrated management through post-press. DoNet allows the pressroom to realize the full benefits of a standardized workflow.

Komori Management System

KMS functions include preset job data transfer to the press and operating status monitoring, plus maintenance scheduling and an interface to other networks. Job data from the K-Station and preset data from PCC are received over the network to set the functions on the press.

Print Quality Control

PQC is a control system for making quality-related adjustments to the press. In addition to remote control of ink, water and register adjustments, a variety of press functions can be adjusted using the touch-screen.

JDF Interface

K-Station enables central control of multiple Komori presses and acts as an interface to outside systems (such as the Management Information System (MIS)). This facilitates the transfer and management of production data via the JDF.

Ink Profile Generation Software

PCC converts PPF data and CMYK-TIFF data into PQC ink key data for Komori presses.

KOMORI KHS-AI ADVANCED INTERFACE QUICK PRINT START

Komori KHS-AI is the new, self-learning version of Komori’s existing KHS quick print start system which further reduces time and waste and ensures quick and precise ink, water and register setting.

It now incorporates Advanced Interface software which progressively updates the press to help attain almost immediate production level on all jobs, even when changing between jobs with different characteristics.

KHS-AI automatically adjusts the settings for each job, taking them closer and closer to immediate production quality levels. The system not only updates ink levels but all air pre-sets throughout the press, and register pre-sets to take account of different inks and materials. Part of the KHS-AI function is to provide Smart Feedback, which allows the operator to temporarily recalibrate the ink profile on any, or all, of the units at a single key stroke, at the random request of the designer or print buyer.

KHS-AI also has Komori Smart Sequence which enables the printer to select job-by-job the most appropriate of fourprogrammable automatic operations for complete press setup. These include de-inking, wash-ups, pre-inking, plate changing and fully automatic make-ready.

The self-learning function of KHS-AI now provides even more integrated control on Komori web systems through the new KHS-AI Link.

KHS-AI Link on Komori Web Presses

Komori web systems now come as standard with the Komori flying paster and infeed, empowering KHS-AI with the complete integration of paster, infeed, printing units, chill stand, web path, web guide, folder, cut-off control, and the new Print Quality Assessment System, PQA-W (option).

Because the KHS-AI self-learning feature integrates all these functions, the System 38S and System 38D web press’s already world-beating job changeover times are enhanced even further and waste is reduced to amazingly low levels.

In addition, a Smart Sequence mode through which multiple jobs with different fold formats can not only be preprogrammed, but automatically run sequentially on just one single command from the operator, with no further intervention other than confirming the OK sheet results and pre-loading the plates for following jobs in the fully automatic plate change cassette.

Lithrone S26/S29, Automation for Productivity in the 26/29-
05.05.2008

The Lithrone S26/S29 features extensive automation for the world’s shortest make-ready combined with Komori’s most advanced technologies. These range from the new Full-APC (the first fully automatic plate-changing system specifically designed for a half-size press), which eliminates the need for a tail bend on the plate and changes four plates in just 2½ minutes, to the fully automatic wash-up of the blanket and impression cylinders and inking rollers. Unique Komori expertise and technologies ensure seamless interlocked operation of these automatic systems to achieve the shortest job-to-job changeover times in the industry.

In addition to exceptionally short make-ready, the Lithrone S29 offers a high-speed (12,000sph) initial printing function, a maximum printing speed of 16,000sph with ultra-stable print quality, and a high-speed pre-inking system. These functions work together to reduce the time from the end of one 200-page job to the start of the next job by 50% – down to a mere six minutes.

The Lithrone S26/29 series is available in a wide range of specifications, giving the printer the option of laying down special inks or overprint varnish, or even utilizing UV-spec units especially for plastic or metallized paper substrates.

New Full-APC

The Lithrone S26/S29 can be equipped with fully automatic plate changing. Plates are changed in just 2½ minutes. The new plate clamping system makes the operation quick and smooth.

New APC Clamp Eliminates Plate Tail Bend

The new clamp system used with the Full-APC system makes plate loading and discharge very efficient. There is no need for a tail bend on the plate, eliminating a step in the production process. And because the clamp is flat, this system also improves register accuracy and ensures very high print quality in addition to high productivity.

Komorimatic

The Lithrone S29 printing units are equipped with the Komorimatic dampening system, which provides a consistent supply of dampening solution directly to the plate and also enables high-quality non-alcohol printing with the minimum necessary amount of water.

Automatic Blanket Washing and Impression Cylinder Cleaning

Program control makes automatic cleaning efficient and free of waste and also makes cloth changing simple and quick. The pre-soaked cloth eliminates cleaning liquid spray and reduces cloth consumption.

Lithrone S40SP, Fusion of Quality and Productivity
05.05.2008

Enhanced productivity converges with high print quality

The new Komori Lithrone S40SP SuperPerfector combines the exceptional print quality of sheetfed presses with the productivity of web presses.

Sheet marking and scuffing are no longer an issue as the Lithrone S40SP requires no transfer cylinder between printing units. And Komori’s innovative delivery belt system, which is automatically synchronized to run at precisely the same speed as the sheet itself, eliminates any possibility of marking as the sheets pass into the delivery pile.

Based on Lithrone S40 series design principles, the press provides outstanding ease of operation with virtual elimination of front/back print quality variation. Cost reductions are significant because paper is saved as the gripper margin is the same for both sides of the sheet. Plate making is simplified because imposition is identical for all plates, front and back.

A new air blower unit design increases the volume of air on the blanket cylinder and the blowing range for enhanced register accuracy. Improved ease of operation and a greater adjustment range with a new clamping device has been made possible by reconfiguring the gripper arrangement, the gripper-changing cam, and the gripper pressure setting, which reduces the stress of gripper-changing on the sheets. Transfer cylinder fanout adjustment can be made by remote control, and the operation console allows easy one-touch operation. An effective integrated plate register adjustment function is also provided for front/back image alignment.
