C.P. Bourg Reports Success at Drupa 2012

-- Company says the end of the quadrennial mega tradeshow is the start of a new era of on-demand print finishing.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 16 May, 2012 – Here at the conclusion of drupa 2012, C.P. Bourg is calling this edition of the quadrennial printing industry mega-show a resounding success – and the start of a new era of on-demand print finishing.

"Digital printing and digital technology is moving smartly into the future, fueled by the reality that virtually everything conventional printing is capable of, digital can do it faster, more efficiently and with added meaning and richness," says James Tressler, Director of Marketing and Branch Operations, C.P. Bourg Inc.

"In this new era, production binding and finishing becomes integral to all but the most isolated print workflows, serving to emphasize concepts like 'nimble production' and 'zero waste.'"

On its stand in Hall 13, on the Xerox stand in Hall 8b and at other companies' stands around the show floor, C.P. Technological Feats

At the Xerox stand in Hall 8b – as Cirque de Soleil® performed mind boggling acrobatic feats – a new C.P. Bourg E-series BSFEx Sheet Feeder, BCMEx Bleed Crease Module, BMEx Booklet Maker and Square Edge only meters away were performing a technological feat, operating with the new Xerox iGen 150 as part of the new Xerox® IntegratedPLUS™ Finishing Solution for Booklets.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the commitment Xerox has made in our dual-mode finisher and to the efficiency and versatility it represents as part of the new Xerox IntegratedPLUS Finishing Solution for Booklets," remarks Mr. Tressler.

This is a technology which Xerox Senior Vice President Integrated Marketing for Europe Valerie Thomassin deemed both "very important," and a "breakthrough in the industry."

Wireless Technology Demonstration

C.P. Bourg also tapped drupa 2012 to demonstrate an important new virtualization technology that allows a finishing equipment operator with a wireless computer to monitor, control and diagnose the operation of C.P. Bourg sheet feeders, booklet makers and perfect binders from anywhere within the reach of a secure wireless local area network.

Thought to be the first implementation of print finishing products operated remotely through a mobile computing device, the virtualization technology demonstration showed how an operator or supervisor using an Apple® iPad® can start, stop, change or query operating parameters, enable diagnostics, and track the performance of any C.P. Bourg finisher with a touch screen controller -- while walking around the print shop factory floor.

The New Era of Print Finishing

"C.P. Bourg is at the forefront of this new era of on-demand print finishing, with innovative, high-quality and efficient products and technologies designed to accommodate the requirements and to capitalize on all the benefits that digital technology has to offer.

"In this way, we help our customers turn print on paper into quality finished products without wasted time or materials – whether they need to produce books and booklets of one, or thousands at a time," Mr. Tressler concludes.

C.P. Bourg Provides a Glimpse into the Future of Wireless Remote Control and Diagnostics

-- Virtualization technology demonstration shows how any C.P. Bourg finisher with a touchscreen interface can be controlled, monitored, diagnosed and even maintained through a wireless computer over a secure network – from a distance of 10 feet or 10,000 miles.

-- Mobile application of networking technology at drupa 2012 in Hall 13 Stand B69 takes advantage of C.P. Bourg engineering strengths and touchscreen innovations.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 14 May, 2012 – Wireless networking technology is an essential element of modern life. And thanks to C.P. Bourg, that technology is a giant step closer to helping improve efficiency and productivity on the print shop factory floor.

Here at drupa 2012, C. P. Bourg – the pioneer and leader in digital print finishing – is demonstrating a desktop duplication technology that allows an operator with a wireless computer to monitor, control and diagnose the operation of C.P. Bourg sheet feeders, booklet makers and perfect binders from anywhere within the reach of a secure wireless local area network (WiFi).

Thought to be the first implementation of print finishing products operated remotely through a mobile computing device, the virtualization technology demonstration shows how an operator or supervisor using an Apple® iPad® can start, stop, change or query operating parameters, enable diagnostics, and track the performance of any C.P. Bourg finisher -- while walking around the stand.

Convergence of "Smart" Technologies

"Several technologies have converged to make this demonstration possible," says James Tressler, Director Marketing and Branch Operations for C.P. Bourg Inc.

"Most important, the touchscreen on a C.P. Bourg finisher is a microprocessor-controlled graphical user interface (GUI) that enables full interactive functionality with the finisher's operating software and mechanics. Next, C.P. Bourg finishers are designed to operate automatically in digital environments, binding or finishing books and booklets on-demand, virtually unattended.

"Add to that the virtualization technology, which allows touchscreen GUIs of Bourg finishers to be shared over a network with other computing devices. Today, these can include wireless devices from tablet computers and PCs to smart phones connected through a wireless local-area network or over the Internet," Mr. Tressler explains.

Using the technology is easy, as shown in several video presentations taken on the C.P. Bourg stand (available at www.cpbourg.com at the "Drupa" tab). In the video presentations, an Apple iPad is used to control a new Bourg BB3102 Perfect Binder as well as a C.P. Bourg Sheet Feeder driving a new BB3202 In-Line Perfect Binder, by duplicating their icon-driven operating systems from anywhere within reach of the secure WiFi connection.

Productivity, Efficiency and Utility Benefits

"It's easy to imagine the many benefits of this capability," says Mr. Tressler.

"In a print shop, one operator or supervisor could monitor and control any number of devices while walking around – in effect, multiplexing his or her time and expertise among several machines or less-skilled operators to maximize uptime and asset utilization.

"Adding the Internet to the equation dramatically expands the possibilities afforded by this technology," he adds. "For example, it enables a supervisor or expert to monitor production processes and advise operators at remote locations. Or, an authorized C.P. Bourg service technician with security clearance could diagnose and fix a customer's hardware and software problems from virtually any location around the world."

C.P. Bourg Enhances In-Line, Off-Line and Dual-Mode Print Finishing with New Bleed-Crease Modules

-- New E-series modules are available for all production configurations, including full compatibility with highly efficient dual-mode workflows.

-- Versatile finishing systems are being demonstrated May 3-16 at drupa 2012 in Düsseldorf.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 11 May, 2012 – C.P. Bourg, the world’s leading developer and supplier of on-demand document feeding, binding and finishing equipment, today announced that it has enhanced the capabilities of its dedicated in-line and versatile near-line/off-line finishing systems with the addition of new and fully automated E-series Bleed Crease Modules that provide optional full-bleed production and creasing for the range of printing environments.

Two versions of the new finishing accessory are available: the Bourg BCME for off-line production with the Bourg BSF Sheet Feeder and Bourg document finishers, and the Bourg BCMEx for in-line use with Xerox® Nuvera® EA Production Systems or Xerox iGen® color presses. The new Bourg BCME is the only bleed-crease system on the market able to match the full rated speed and large format size of these digital presses.

For near-line/off-line automation, the BCME Bleed Crease Module trims and creases sheets sent from the Bourg BSF Sheet Feeder and passes them to a Bourg BDFE Document Finisher or Bourg BME Booklet Maker for stitch-fold-trim finishing. Bourg BCME systems can accept coated or uncoated stock up to 350 gsm in sizes from 7 x 8 inches to 14.33 x 22.5 inches printed digitally or conventionally.

When used in-line, the new BCMEx can contribute full-bleed trimming to a dedicated and JDF enabled digital document finishing production stream or to the new dual-mode finishing workflow made possible by the Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder. As part of a dual-mode Bourg BSFx production line, the BCMEx is able to top-and bottom-trim and crease output from the in-line Xerox iGen or Xerox Nuvera press, or from any number of off-line print engines. Bleed-trimmed and creased sheets are transported to a Bourg BDFEx Document Finisher or Bourg BMEx Booklet Maker for final processing – giving finished booklets a crisp, three-sided trim in a single production pass.

"In a dedicated digital printing environment, the BCMEx expands versatility by providing automated bleed-trim production and sophisticated creasing to digitally-printed monochrome and full-color materials," says Richard F. Trapilo, Executive Vice President and General Manager, C.P. Bourg, Inc.

“In a dual-mode environment, utilizing the same production line to stitch, fold and trim documents coming from various digital print workflows – in addition to the dedicated print engine – dramatically enhances productivity, and boosts utilization of the finishing equipment to further maximize the user's return on investment, says Mr. Trapilo.

"Owing to its fully automated operation, the Bourg BCME Bleed Crease Module fits perfectly in any fast-paced printing environment."

Bourg BCME systems feature fully automated operation without the need for an operator console or display:
-- In the off-line configuration, the operation of the BCME module is programmed through the Bourg BME operator console, which is mounted for easy access on a 300-degree swivel arm.
-- During dedicated operation in-line, the BCMEx module operates entirely under program control of the Xerox iGen or Xerox Nuvera press.
-- When part of a dual-mode finishing workflow, the BCMEx can accept printed material from the in-line Xerox iGen or Nuvera press via pass-through from the integrated Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder, or from other print streams entering the finishing process through the Bourg BSFx.

Taking Finishing to the "Next Level"

The new Bourg BCME-series machines are able to precision-trim up to 350 gsm coated or uncoated stock in sizes from 7 x 8 inches to 14.33 x 22.5 inches – the largest format of any bleed-trim device designed for digital printing. Advanced stepper-motor scoring cylinder technology unique to C.P. Bourg creases sheets on the fly as they travel through the machine, without impeding productivity. An oversized waste bin makes it possible for the BCME to run four hours before being emptied on the fly as the machine continues production, while a bypass function affords Bourg BCME models the flexibility to crease without trimming, or to allow sheets to pass through with no action taken.

“C.P. Bourg E-series products take print finishing to the next level of automation and productivity," Mr. Trapilo explains. "Our new BCME Bleed Crease Modules significantly enhance the versatility of any Bourg production line with full-format bleed trimming and on-the-fly creasing in a compact, efficient package."

The new Bourg BCME and BCMEx Bleed Crease Modules will be shown in various configurations at this year's drupa exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany May 3-16, 2012, along with tens of other C.P. Bourg finishing products and modular production lines for conventional, digital, mixed, and new dual-mode production environments.

10.05.2012    C.P. Bourg Announces Compact, Environmentally-Friendly BB3002 PUR Binder for On-Demand Book Production

C.P. Bourg Announces Compact, Environmentally-Friendly BB3002 PUR Binder for On-Demand Book Production

-- Easily operated and maintained, the Bourg BB3002 PUR-C excels at on-demand and short-run book production while keeping VOCs in their place without venting.

-- New binder prototype is being demonstrated at drupa 2012 on the C.P. Bourg stand at Hall 13 B 69, with shipments slated for December 2012.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 10 May, 2012 – C.P. Bourg today announced a compact and operator-friendly PUR version of its proven single-clamp BB3002 Perfect Binder that presents an efficient, economical and environmentally-sound means of producing bound soft-cover and hard-cover books in a wide range of sizes on-demand.

The new Bourg BB3002 PUR-C combines the innovative features of the company's successful Bourg BB3002 EVA Perfect Binder with a highly efficient and easily maintained compact polyurethane reactive (PUR) gluing system that is completely sealed and fully integrated with the BB3002 binder's operating system.

The patented nozzle and tank assembly includes an innovative gluing and cleaning /purging system. The gluing system features a self-sealing applicator nozzle that rotates open to dispense a thin bead of PUR glue or hot-melt adhesive to the milled book block, and fully closes to eliminate waste, prevent vapors from escaping, and prevent air from compromising the remaining adhesive. A compact, two-tank design with an automatic cleaning/purging cycle makes it easy for the operator to load a fresh 4.5-pound slug into the glue tank and quickly resume production, and to clean and purge the nozzle safely and automatically with pushbutton ease at start-up and shut-down.

In addition to the savings achieved by eliminating waste, the efficiency of the BB3002 PUR-C sealed spine and side gluing system reduces operator costs and production time, dramatically reduces the release of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, and eliminates the need for an on-board venting system.

Other features include automatic spine thickness sensing for “book of one” production, adjustable power milling and notching, high-quality knife creasing system able to create winged books and 50-job programmable memory with auto setup. The system's 11-inch color touchscreen permits easy operator control through a graphical user interface.

With minimal operator intervention from a cold start, the single-clamp BB3002 PUR-C binder can be producing books from 1 to 60 mm (0.2 to 2.56 in) thick, in page sizes from 100 x 100 mm (4.0 x 4.0 inches) to 385 x 320 mm (15.15 x 12.6 inches) at up to 200 cycles per hour.

Finished books can be stacked in an optional receiving bin for easy operator removal. Other options to the new BB3002 PUR-C include connection to a Challenge CMT 330 or CMT 130 trimmer; and addition of a fully integrated barcode solution which enables job tracking to maximize productivity and integrity and that is especially useful in “book runs of one” where matching covers to content is critical.

A prototype of the compact new Bourg BB3002 PUR-C binder is being shown here at drupa 2012 May 3-16, 2012 on the C.P. Bourg stand at Hall 13 B69. The BB3002 PIUR-C will be available directly from C.P. Bourg offices worldwide or through the company's distributors worldwide, with first shipments expected in December 2012.

08.05.2012    C.P. Bourg Announces Next-Generation Perfect Binder for Automated In-Line Production of Digitally Printed Books

C.P. Bourg Announces Next-Generation Perfect Binder for Automated In-Line Production of Digitally Printed Books

-- New Bourg BB3202 can operate in-line with a range of different manufacturer's digital presses and C.P. Bourg production modules for binding manuals, catalogs and photo books on demand.

-- Fast automated operation and versatility raise output for "book runs of one" to a new level of productivity and flexibility.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 8 May, 2012 – C.P. Bourg, the company that pioneered in-line digital binding and finishing, today announced that it has developed and will begin shipping by year-end a next-generation, fully automated perfect binder designed to operate in-line with any of a variety of digital printing presses and production finishing configurations. The new in-line binder is being demonstrated on the C.P. Bourg stand, at 13B69.

This advanced in-line perfect binding system, simply called the Bourg BB3202, draws on C.P. Bourg's many years of experience with the company's highly successful perfect binders for on-demand production of digitally-printed books. These are the groundbreaking Bourg BB2005, introduced in 1995 as the world's first in-line perfect binder and for which the company received a prestigious GATF (now PIA) InterTech Technology Award in 1996, and the equally innovative off-line Bourg BB3002 Perfect Binder introduced in 2003.

Both of these predecessor binders are used today in thousands of customer installations around the world, and each will continue to be sold by C.P. Bourg and its worldwide network of dealers.

The new Bourg BB3202 builds on the best of both designs to produce perfect-bound volumes – from monochrome handbooks and manuals to full-color catalogs, family genealogies and personal photo books – at a peak rate of 350 books per hour, depending on printer speed, from digitally-printed content and covers. Final dimensions of books produced by the Bourg BB3202 range from 100 x 100 mm (3.94 x 3.94 in) up to a maximum 385 mm x 320 (15.15 x 12.6 in), and in thickness from 1 to 60 mm (0.04 to 2.36 in) – the largest of any in-line binder currently available.

Like the BB3002 on which it is based, the new BB3202 binder automatically adapts to the thickness of each job to process each book most productively, and sets jogging, power milling and notching, gluing, scoring and suction cover-feeding under program control. A three-cylinder glue tank takes advantage of BB3202 power milling and notching to penetrate glue between sheets, apply the desired quantity along the spine, and ensure perfect glue distribution.

The BB3202 can also make 13 positive or negative high-quality creases utilizing a knife-creasing technology that offers superior results and greater flexibility compared to conventional wheel-scoring, including the ability to create winged book jackets.

A proven barcode system is available as an option for any BB3202 configuration. The barcode system incorporates both book content and cover sensors to ensure accurate cover-to-content matching. Job integrity check and automatic communication with CMT trimmers makes it possible to track books through binding and trimming and to track production statistics to improve workflow efficiency.

"Digitally printed books can be unique and produced almost instantly on-demand – giving rise to the term 'book run of one' and making it possible, for example, to print photo books for different customers one after the other," says James Tressler, Director of Marketing and Branch Operations, C.P. Bourg Inc.

"Although the BB3202 is a single-clamp binder, in a complex and fast-paced digital printing environment it offers a level of productivity and process integrity that can exceed operator-controlled multi-clamp binders, to bind more books in a given amount of time while preventing costly errors," he adds.

Configuration Flexibility

The BB3202 can be configured to operate in-line with a digital press directly or through various optional C.P. Bourg production modules, or with a Bourg Sheet Feeder for near-line/off-line automated production.

Optional modules compatible with the BB3202 include the CEM DocuConverter for cutting full-size printed output into smaller sheets, and the Bourg BPRF Perforating Rotating Folder which perforates, rotates and folds sheets into nested signatures.

In addition, a BB3202 in any configuration can be operated as a operator-controlled offline BB3002 perfect binder. In this way, short-run jobs can be produced to satisfy immediate production needs without interrupting in-line job setups, or to accommodate book blocks produced from other workflows.

During off-line operation, any custom adjustments for jogging, milling, gluing, scoring and suction cover-feeding can be easily selected from a list of menu options on an operator-friendly touchscreen graphical user interface. In all modes, the binder adapts to the thickness of each job, enabling highly productive, automatic operation.

Whether operating in-line or near-line/off-line, the BB3202 can send the bound books to a reception module for manual removal and trimming off-line, or to a CMT-330 or CMT-130 Trimmer for automatic three-sided trimming.

BB3202 Demonstrated at drupa 2012

Here at drupa 2012 on the C.P. Bourg stand, at 13B69, a BB3202 is connected in-line to a Xerox iGen press and a Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder in a demonstration of super-efficient in-line book manufacturing. In the demonstration, 26-inch (660 mm) sheets printed 6-up double-sided by the Xerox iGen pass through the dual-mode Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder bypass to a CEM DocuConverter and Bourg BPRF Perforating Rotating Folder.

The 26-inch sheets are cross-cut by the CEM, and perforated, rotated and folded by the Bourg BPRF into three A5 nested signatures sent to the BB3202. When the last signature is accumulated, the BB3202 measures the spine and binds the book according to pre-set instructions for jogging, milling, gluing and cover application. The bound book is then sent to a Challenge CMT-330 trimmer for three-sided trimming.

Yes, there's an app for that…

Also at Drupa, C.P. Bourg is demonstrating at its stand 13 B 69 new technology that allows an operator with a wireless computer or smart phone to monitor and control the operation of Bourg BSF Sheet Feeders, BME Booklet Makers and new BB3202 automatic perfect binders from anywhere within the reach of a secure wireless local area network (WiFi) connection.

Thought to be the first "app" developed to operate print finishing products remotely through mobile devices, the technology demonstration will feature how an Apple iPad® connected by WiFi to various C.P. Bourg finishers can be used to view the finishers' GUIs and change operating parameters, enable diagnostics, or track performance statistics while walking around the booth.

"Although the Bourg BB3202 is designed for a variety of digital printing presses and environments, we are excited to be partnering with Xerox to demonstrate the new BB3202 at drupa 2012 for the first time, and in a way that highlights the capabilities of both the Xerox iGen press and a fully appointed BB3202 manufacturing line," remarks Mr. Tressler.

The new Bourg BB3202 perfect binder is available from C.P. Bourg and through the company's worldwide dealer network, with first shipments beginning by the end of December 2012.

06.05.2012    C.P. Bourg Unveils Versatile Perfect-Binding System Featuring Automatic Unattended Off-Line Book Production

C.P. Bourg Unveils Versatile Perfect-Binding System Featuring Automatic Unattended Off-Line Book Production

-- Bourg BB3102 perfect binding system allows simple loading of up to 120 books, and automatic operation to bind 350 books/hour unattended – allowing the operator to accomplish other tasks.

-- New Bourg BBL Book Loader option is available to users of the Bourg BB3002 Perfect Binder as a field upgrade.

-- System is being demonstrated here at drupa 2012 at Hall 13 Stand B69, with shipments starting in January 2013.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 6 May, 2012 – C.P. Bourg, the world’s leading developer and supplier of on-demand document binding and finishing equipment, today introduced a major advance in producing perfect-bound books off line – including digitally printed "book runs of one" – with the introduction of a new perfect binding system that features unattended operation.

The new system, called the Bourg BB3102 – is a fully automated perfect binding system aimed at short-run and on-demand production environments. The BB3102 combines the proven Bourg BB3002 Perfect Binder driven at maximum speed and productivity by the company's new Bourg BBL Book Loader, which together make it possible to produce a wide variety of bound, soft-cover books from traditional or digital print streams, with minimal intervention.

Existing Bourg BB3002 users will be able to have their perfect binders retrofitted in the field to BB3102 functionality through the addition of the Bourg BBL Book Loader and its associated hardware and software.

The BB3102 makes it easy for the operator to load in less than six minutes up to 120 book blocks into the Bourg BBL Book Loader, load corresponding covers into the cover feeder, set job parameters and leave the system unattended for up to 30 minutes of non-stop production, at a rate of up to 350 books/hour, while they focus on other tasks. The Book Loader allows books to vary in thickness from 5 to 60 mm (0.2 to 2.36-in), and in paper sizes from 195 x 127 mm (7.68 x 5.0 in) to 385 x 320 mm (15.15 x 12.6 in).

The Bourg BBL continuously feeds the entire set of book blocks to the proven Bourg BB3002, a self-setting single-clamp perfect binder that automatically jogs each set of flat sheets or folded sections with amplitude and vibration control that adjusts to paper type and book thickness; and mills up to 3 mm (0.12 in) using up to four notching tools.

Other BB3002 capabilities required for short run perfect binding include two glue rollers with a contra-rotating back-spinner that provide enhanced glue penetration; and operator programmed automatic side-gluing that ensures a perfect adhesion of the wraparound covers. The BB3002 also automatically creases book covers with up to thirteen male or female creases, and easily processes wing-book covers. Finished books are stacked in a receiving bin for easy operator removal.

"Although printing environments today can be demanding and unpredictable, short print runs, fast turnaround times and rising labor costs are almost guaranteed," says James Tressler, Director of Marketing and Branch Operations, C.P. Bourg Inc.

"The BB3102 perfect binding system makes it possible for commercial and in-plant printers and specialty binders to address today's often complex and unpredictable workflows with a versatile system that replaces the monotony and inconsistency of manually-guided short-run book production with predictability and high productivity," he adds.

Options and Upgrades

Options to the new BB3102 include connection to a Challenge CMT 330 trimmer, and addition of a fully integrated barcode solution that enables job tracking to maximize productivity and integrity. This is especially useful in “book runs of one” where matching covers to content is critical.

Adding the barcode and trimmer options enables the BB3102 system to produce books – from book blocks to final, trimmed output stacked and ready for dispatch – entirely without operator intervention.

The new Bourg BB3102 is being shown here at Drupa 2012 May 3-16, 2012 on the C.P. Bourg stand 13B69.

It is available directly from C.P. Bourg offices worldwide or through the company's distributors worldwide. First shipments are expected in January 2013.

-- Both JDF-enabled Bourg "E-series" finishers are being shown operating with the Xerox Color 800/1000 here at drupa on the Xerox stand in Hall 8b.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 5 May, 2012 – C.P. Bourg, the world’s leading developer and supplier of on-demand document binding and finishing equipment and a leading Xerox Corporation Business Partner, today announced that two of its advanced, JDF-enabled "E-series" document finishing products have been validated by Xerox for use in-line with Xerox® Color 800/1000 Presses.

Xerox validation of these Bourg "E-series" products delivers on the promise of touchless print finishing, to provide the user of any Xerox Color 800/1000 Press with exceptional finishing efficiency, flexibility and productivity.

Fast and Flexible Booklet-Making

C.P. Bourg products validated for use with Xerox Color 800/1000 Presses are the JFD-enabled Bourg BDFEx Document Finisher and Bourg BCMEx Bleed Crease Module, as well as the Bourg SQE Square Edge option.

The Bourg BDFEx Document Finisher gives Xerox Color 800/1000 users automatic, on-demand stitch-fold-trim finishing of booklets and other documents at rates up to 4,200 sets per hour from printed sheets in sizes from 203.2 x 120 mm (8 x 4.72 in) to 520 x 356 mm (20.47 x 14.01 in).

The optional Bourg BCMEx Bleed Crease Module contributes full-bleed top-and bottom trimming and superior-quality single-pass knife creasing matched to the speeds of Xerox Color 800/1000 Presses, helping to give finished booklets a crisp, three-sided trim. The optional Bourg SQE gives saddle-stitched booklets a squared edge similar in appearance to perfect bound books, to make them lay flat, easy to stack and to allow for printed content on the spine.

Due to its fully integrated and proven automated paper handling, stitching and trimming features, the Bourg BDF series is widely regarded as among the most efficient and reliable document finishers ever built. They are also one of the most successful, with thousands of the compact stitch-fold-trim units installed at user locations around the world.

Automatic In-Line Finishing

“The ability of the Bourg BDFEx to operate seamlessly as part of a JDF-enabled workflow and produce the highest quality print finishing is testimony to overall Bourg BDF product design and to C.P. Bourg dedication to quality, innovation and efficiency. These traits have made Bourg BDF Document Finishers popular products with print finishing professionals for a broad range of applications in diverse markets,” said James Tressler, Director of Marketing and Branch Operations, C.P. Bourg, Inc.

"Now, Xerox validation of these proven and highly productive Bourg 'E-series' finishers gives Xerox Color 800/1000 users access to all the benefits of fully automatic, touchless production as part of the new Xerox® IntegratedPLUS™ Finishing Solution for Booklets," says Mr. Tressler.

As an integral part of the Xerox IntegratedPLUS workflow, the Bourg document finishers are guided by job tickets written in Job Definition Format (JDF), the XML-based file format standard for information exchange in the graphic arts. The JDF job tickets are used to set up all finishing function changeovers automatically for each job, including bleed and trim dimensions, folding crease placement, stitch position, paper dimensions and paper weight.

"In this way, the Bourg BDFEx and BCMEx finishers operate seamlessly in-line with the Color 800/1000 Press as a tightly integrated unit, synchronizing production instructions, preventing production of 'impossible jobs' and enabling automatic document size changeovers to accommodate with peak efficiency any type of job the production system is capable of handling," Mr. Tressler explained

Here at drupa 2012, the Bourg BCMEx Bleed Crease Module and Bourg BDFEx Document Finisher are being shown operating with a Xerox Color 800/1000 Press on the Xerox stand at Hall 8b.

The C.P. Bourg JDF-enabled E-series finishers validated for use with Xerox Color 800/1000 Presses are available from Xerox Corporation sales offices worldwide.

New C.P. Bourg Stack Carts for Major Manufacturers' Digital Presses Facilitate Near-Line/Off-Line Binding and Finishing

-- Specially-designed carts enable easy, "set-secure" transfer of accumulated print output from digital presses to any C.P. Bourg BSF-based binding and finishing system.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf Germany; 4 May, 2012 – Near-line finishing of digitally printed content can deliver huge efficiency gains. But as any print professional knows, transferring a 20-inch-tall stack of printed sheets weighing hundreds of pounds from press to finisher is a difficult task – and one that can disrupt the integrity of the collated sets.

To maintain the set integrity of digitally printed output while maximizing finisher productivity, C.P. Bourg, the world’s leading developer and supplier of on-demand document binding and finishing equipment, today introduced a new series of wheeled stack carts designed and approved to work with digital presses made by Canon, H-P, Kodak, Océ and Xerox Corporation.

The Bourg stack carts (trolleys) utilize an "air table" designed to operate with the Bourg BSF Sheet Feeder that makes it easy to transfer an entire 500 mm (19.7 in) stack of printed sheets from the digital press's accumulator (stacker) to the content feeding compartment of the Bourg BSF. The printed sheets can range in size from 203.2 x 177.8 mm (8 x 7 in) to the BSF-series maximum format of 660 x 364 mm (26 x 14.3 in).

"Owing to the Bourg BSF's unique air-table design, Bourg stack carts provide the critical link for 'set-secure' near-line/off-line automated finishing by allowing the pressman or finishing system operator, virtually hands-free, to easily load into the BSF and maintain press registration of an entire 500 mm (19.7 in) stack of collated output," says James Tressler, Director of Marketing and Branch Operations for C.P. Bourg Inc.

The Bourg BSF Sheet Feeder acts as a high-speed production gateway feeding up to 15,000-sheets/hour to C.P. Bourg binding and finishing systems, which can produce a variety of digitally-printed short-run finished products by the thousands automatically, without manual intervention. The finished products can include top-, corner or side-stitched reports and handouts, bound books up to 60mm thick, and saddle-stitched documents from the size of a CD case to oversized landscape-format brochures, catalogs and calendars.

A pioneer in digital binding and finishing, C.P. Bourg is a major manufacturer of high-pile trolleys and stack carts for digital printing environments, with thousands installed worldwide.

The new Bourg Stack Carts for all Bourg BSF-based near-line/off-line production systems are available from C.P. Bourg directly and from many of its distributors and digital press partners worldwide.

Several of the new Bourg stack carts for different manufacturer's digital presses are being demonstrated here at Drupa 2012, on the C.P. Bourg stand 13B69 and on the stands of digital press manufacturers elsewhere on the show floor.

04.05.2012    C. P. Bourg Enhances Dual-Mode Sheet Feeder to Support Off-Line JDF Workflows on Xerox In-Line Finishers

C. P. Bourg Enhances Dual-Mode Sheet Feeder to Support Off-Line JDF Workflows on Xerox In-Line Finishers

-- New Bourg BSFEx Sheet Feeder acts as the gateway to a Xerox® IntegratedPLUS™ Finishing Solution for Booklets, giving print shops the option of automatically finishing jobs printed off-line by a variety of digital presses on C.P. Bourg equipment attached in-line to a Xerox® iGen™ or Nuvera™ Press.
-- The "perfect solution" for users in printing facilities with multiple presses who want to maximize finishing efficiency, flexibility and productivity while preserving job integrity.

Drupa; Messe Düsseldorf, Germany; 4 May, 2012 – C.P. Bourg today announced an enhanced "E-series" version of its versatile dual-mode Bourg BSF Sheet Feeder that allows C.P. Bourg finishing equipment connected in-line to a Xerox® iGen™ or Nuvera™ press also to accept jobs from many different off-line printers and produce them automatically in a JDF workflow.

C.P. Bourg also announced that this new Bourg BSFEx Sheet Feeder can accept printed output loaded on stack carts used with DS3500, DS5000, and DC7000/8000 Gradco HCS high-capacity stackers for Xerox and non-Xerox high-volume digital printers. These include Xerox iGen, Nuvera and Color 800/1000 presses, and printers from Canon, H-P Indigo, Kodak and Océ, among others.

To achieve automatic finishing for jobs printed off-line, the Bourg BSFEx is equipped with a hand-held barcode scanner that operates with the Xerox IntegratedPLUS™ Finishing Solution for Booklets, also announced here at drupa 2012. In operation, the off-line digital press prints a "banner page" with a unique barcode when its stacker is fully loaded.

The barcode contains a reference to the entire series of JDF job tickets associated with each job in the stack. When the stack of jobs is wheeled to the BSFEx, the operator simply scans the barcode on the banner page before transferring the entire stack on the cart's air-table into the BSFEx, virtually hands-free.

The JDF job tickets are used by the in-line finishing system to set up all finishing function changeovers automatically for each job in the stack, including bleed and trim dimensions, folding crease placement, stitch position, paper dimensions and paper weight.

Stacks of jobs up to 19.7 inches (500 mm) high can be loaded in the high-pile compartment of the BSFEx from the stacker carts, while stacks of covers or content up to 6.3 inches (160 mm) can be placed manually in the top tray. Sheet sizes accepted by the BSFEx can range from a minimum of 203.2 x 177.8 mm (8 x 7 in) to a maximum of 571.5 x 364 mm (22.5 x 14.3 in).

During in-line finishing, the BSFEx bypass feature passes sheets from the Xerox iGen or Nuvera press directly to the in-line C.P. Bourg finishing modules. When the finishing modules are being used to finish jobs printed off-line, the in-line Xerox iGen or Nuvera press prints sheets to its stacker, or is idle.

C.P. Bourg finishing modules that can operate in-line with the Xerox iGen or Nuvera and with the dual-mode BSFEx include the Bourg BCMEx Bleed Crease Module, BDFEx Document Finisher, BMEx Booklet Maker and SQE Square Edge.

"The Bourg BSFEx is the perfect solution for printing professionals in environments with multiple digital presses who are struggling to decide what engine to dedicate to a specific finishing line," says James Tressler, Director of Marketing and Branch Operations, C.P. Bourg Inc.

"By sharing the same finishing equipment to produce booklets and other documents from in-line and near-line/off-line finishing workflows with the same high degree of integrity, the dual-mode Bourg BSFEx maximizes asset utilization, finishing efficiency, flexibility and productivity – not to mention that it also delivers the best ROI in the industry."

Here at drupa 2012, the new Bourg BSFEx is being shown on the Xerox stand at Hall 8b.

The new Bourg BSFEx Sheet Feeder will be available in August 2012 from Xerox Corporation sales offices worldwide.
