Small and Powerfull: iPrint Compact

The new IMPIKA continuous feed inkjet printer iPrint Compact prints 2-up duplex in a single print tower and turns the iPrint range in the largest and most comprehensive print offering on the market.

Aubagne, France April 20, 2012: Innovations are occurring at a fast pace in IMPIKA. Worldwide demand for continuous feed color printers is growing quickly and these last few years, the customer requirements are sharper and become more specific. There is no universal answer but obviously, flexibility, scalability and investment leveling seem to be predominant criteria.
The iPrint Compact was specifically designed to meet transactional, transpromo and direct mail markets for financial services, communications, insurance, health care and utilities companies, etc… and can be operated either by document printing service providers, in-house print services, or by printers looking for the best compromise.
The iPrint Compact prints 2-up color duplex in 600x600dpi at 76 m/min within a single-frame (one print tower only) with a footprint among the smallest on the market.

Efficient and flexible
The iPrint Compact shares the DNA of the iPrint family of printers: IMPIKA’s piezo DOD inkjet technology, easy to use ergonomic design, robust and reliable manufacturing together with high performances in order to meet the requirements of volume production printing.
Based on a single piece frame, equipped with a high precision paper run, an integrated turn bar and two separate drying systems, the iPrint Compact prints on 474 mm printwidth either in simplex or in duplex with optimized electric power consumption.
The iPrint Compact standard mode setting, 600x600 dpi at 76 m/min, enables to meet the transactional, transpromotional and book printing requirements.
Two more optional print modes expand significantly the printer’s portability to other projects:
• a 360 x 600 dpi mode printing at 127 m/min (High Speed) and offering an ideal platform for color and monochrome transactional data, monthly statements and invoices.

• a 1200 x 600 dpi mode producing at 40 m/min (High Quality) well suited for direct marketing applications.
The iPrint Compact is designed for monthly volumes between 2 and 10 million A4 sides per month, with the ability to absorb daily production peaks of over 1 million A4 sides.
On the digital front end side, IMPIKA AFP/IPDS iController manages full variable data printing. It takes full advantage of the printer’s performances in terms of speed, output and printing quality through the dynamic ICC color profile management.

A compact design
For many customers, it is difficult to manage the production space and work environment conditions of Service Bureau with TED solutions (Twin Engine Duplex). The IMPIKA design team took up this challenge to produce a continuous feed, color production printer among the smallest on the market, the iPrint Compact.
With a footprint below 10m², a weight under 3.5 tons and a length below 10 meters (including unwinder and rewinder), the iPrint Compact outperforms comparable solutions in its class. And because it is lighter it can also be installed in a service bureau environment, on raised floors.
Migration to color
The move from offset pre-printed stocks with monochrome personalization to full variable color printing is an irreversible growing trend that started a few years ago.
The iPrint Compact is an ideal solution for print shops offering variable data customization in the transactional and direct marketing trades who wish to benefit without any risk from a high volume inkjet solution at a moderate investment cost.
With the iPrint Compact it is possible, for example, to start with a monochrome solution, for black overprinting of pre-printed stocks (pinless or pinfed) and evolve to a full color process through the on site installation of addtionnal printheads.
As for other iPrint models, the iPrint Compact benefits from a smart counting device, that differentiates the print cost between monochrome and full-color pages excluding the blank pages from the counting.

An economical solution
Built up from a single chassis and representing only a moderate investment, iPrint Compact achieves operating costs which are among the lowest in the market.
Thanks to a shortened paper path, the ability to maintain constant visual quality during the acceleration and deceleration phases (proved by several years of experience on all continuous feed IMPIKA printers) and the possibility to link the print jobs reduces drastically paper waste.
The iPrint Compact is compatible with all IMPIKA water based inks, pigment or dye, as well as with the new IMPIKA HD inks (High Density), also well adapted for transpromotional and transactional applications. HD inks enable the use of uncoated low cost (< 700€/ton) and lower weight papers with unrivaled print quality. HD inks accelerate the return on investment through highly competitive print costs per page.
Flexible and versatile, the iPrint Compact supports a wide range of outputs, including books, newspapers, brochures, manuals, specification sheets, etc...

iPrint: a complete range of continuous feed color production printers
"After, the launch of iPrint Reference in 2007 with immediate success among top-leader customers, we then brought to the market the iPrint eVolution, which first installations started in late 2011. We continue with the introduction of the iPrint eXtreme, and complete the implementation of our unique continuous feed inkjet production printer family with the launch of the iPrint Compact” explains Jean Marc PASTUREL, Sales and Marketing Director at IMPIKA.
The last-born of the iPrint printers, the iPrint Compact will have its world premiere next month at Drupa, and will be marketed beginning of June 2012. The printer should meet great success, considering the number of already confirmed orders.

The iPrint eXtreme offers, through integration of latest-generation printheads, a print width of 711mm (28''), enabling a wide range of print sizes up to the B1 format (707 x 1000mm), including the necessary variations for newspapers production (broadsheet, tabloid and berliner), as well as format and width requirements for book publication.

Print Speed: fasten your seatbelts!
The iPrint eXtreme prints in color at 375m/min and offers opportunities for monochrome printing at far higher speeds. These unique and exclusive speeds inherent in the IMPIKA piezoelectric technology will revolutionize the user’s print productivity benchmarks and growth strategies.
The possibilities are many and varied. They include for instance, the color printing of 8,000 copies of a 40-page tabloid newspaper, or 45,000 format B2 or 22,500 format B1 pages per hour, according to the requested print quality specifications.
As it is for all models in the iPrint range, high speed variable data management is ensured by the multi-format iController, designed to IMPIKA standards and compatible with most servers on the market.

Print quality: an exceptional choice
IMPIKA inkjet technology addresses a wide range of color and monochrome applications to meet the most demanding quality standards:
• A 360x600 dpi mode particularly well suited for newspaper printing and transactional applications.
• A 600x600 dpi mode which is intended primarily for direct mail, transactional and Transpromo applications.
• A new VHQ (Very High Quality) Mode, an IMPIKA exclusive which allows printers working at 600x600 dpi, with four grey scale levels, to offer very high quality reproduction even at high speeds. This mode is ideal for applications requiring a high quality standard.
• An "Offset quality" with 1200x1200 dpi native resolution, an IMPIKA exclusive introduced at IPEX 2010, allowing printers to target graphic arts and offset market applications.

Number of colors: from monochrome to six colors
The iPrint eXtreme architecture is built around a unique modular concept consisting of a base frame with two print heads that can be added to eachother for more elaborate configurations. This modular concept allows flexibility, starting with high speed monochrome to four- and six-color configurations for the most demanding applications both in terms of quality and speed.
As with all series printers in the iPrint range, the eXtreme supports water-based pigment or dye inks, including a full range of Pantone colors, as well as MICR and special inks.

Finishing system: a new range suitable for the IMPIKA inkjet printers
The performances of digital printers should be fully exploited to derive the greatest economic and technical advantage.
IMPIKA will introduce at Drupa 2012, a first finishing solution capable of meeting the new speed standards proposed by the iPrint eXtreme. It is characterized by a pair of specially designed unwinders and rewinders to run at speeds up to 500 m/mn. Other high-speed cutting and folding finishing systems are currently in development to propose, for example, for the newspaper and graphic arts markets, full production lines to make the most of IMPIKA inkjet productivity.

Design and ergonomics: a combination of aesthetics and performance
At IMPIKA, the technical performances of our products are always related to a concern for the aesthetic and the functional experience. The dimensions proposed by the iPrint eXtreme are specifically packaged to mark the unique characteristics of IMPIKA’s new product able to answer to high productivity applications (printer) as well as high quality ones (press).
An innovative approach has been applied to the iPrint eXtreme ergonomics with the installation of optional new display, never seen before on this type of machine, enabling to inform about production and functioning in an “eXtreme” format.

New ink: printing in HD
Drupa 2012 will also be an opportunity for IMPIKA to introduce the latest generation of inks compatible with all iPrint models, referenced as HD (High Density) inks. These inks are the result of years of research and collaboration and are described as pigments incorporating "density boosters". The main advantages are the possible use of low cost papers, the show through reduction even on lower paper weights (<50 g/m²), and the higher color density reducing significantly the cost per print. HD Inks open important new opportunities and prospects for digital markets and mots particularly for newspaper, transactional and Transpromo.
"The IMPIKA iPrint eXtreme represents a milestone in the market development of digital inkjet printing. We designed and manufactured this product to bridge the gap between traditional and digital printing, not only in terms of performance, but also as essential link between the paper and the full digital approach as figured by its graphic interface. The solutions synergy is for IMPIKA the way forward which allows different business models to coexist and evolve. The world is changing very fast and industry requires flexible and scalable solutions to meet the needs of today and, above all, those of tomorrow. The iPrint eXtreme, is the perfect example of the right combination of technological expertise and market feedback” noted IMPIKA Chief Executive Officer, Paul Morgavi.
The power of words and the logic of numbers are not sufficient to translate this new dimension in print if not accompanied by the emotion of a full-scale demonstration that will be on offer at the IMPIKA stand, Drupa Hall 5, C24.

Aubagne – France, March 7, 2012: As product and technology announcements accumulate during this period of the year, IMPIKA introduces yet another show-stopper with its iPrint eVolution, a new industrial platform which offers durable and scalable printing solutions.

Driven by customer needs and market orientations, IMPIKA is aware that today’s expectations may be different from those of tomorrow. It has therefore developed this unique iPrint eVolution platform to ensure that customer needs are always met, even as those needs evolve over time (print configurations, speeds and quality).

The iPrint eVolution platform will be on display at the Impika booth (Hall 5, C24) at Drupa 2012 (Düsseldorf, 3-16 May 2012).

Evolution combined with durability
With a technological platform already acknowledged by the market, the iPrint eVolution is built on the basis of a print chassis designed to accommodate up to 4 print heads. The standard version of the machine prints with two print heads at a speed of 40 to 125m/min with resolutions of 1200 to 360 dpi. The printer’s output can be doubled with the addition of two print heads, producing at a speed ranging from 75m/min up to 250 m/min with a competitive print cost.

With five available print resolutions, the iPrint eVolution offers the largest range of print quality among industrial inkjet printers, from 360x600 dpi to 2400x1200 dpi, including a new and exclusive 600x600 dpi with four levels of greyscale. The iPrint eVolution platform meets and exceeds trade requirements for direct marketing, transpromo and transactional processing as well as for newspaper and book publishing.

The iPrint eVolution offers a high degree of modularity, accommodating continuous feed roll-to-roll or roll-to-sheet with one or two towers. Twin engines can be configured together in line set up (I), in U shape (U) or in L shape (L) as well as separately for even more flexibility.

Data workflow is managed through a custom designed IPDS controller offering a rich set of format options that can be updated according to expectations.

All upgrade operations are performed at the client site without any impact on machine layout nor significant interruption to job processing. One additional training session is sufficient for operators and service personnel already familiar with printer operations.

“The advantage to our clients is measurable. This eVolution concept enables to spread and secure their investment over time, while offering performance and state of the art technology. iPrint eVolution is a solution built to last and to evolve at the client’s pace,” says Impika CEO Paul Morgavi.

The iPrint eVolution platform was very quickly recognized by print professionals as an optimized and secured investment for scalable development. A number of iPrint eVolution platforms have already been installed and are operational in France and in Australia.

With such flexibility and reactivity there can be little wonder that IMPIKA calls upon its clients to “Print Your Difference”. Stay tuned for even more new and innovative solutions to be presented by IMPIKA, during the buildup to Drupa 2012.
