PIONEER PUR
04.04.2012

The Pioneer is truly the first of its kind, and unlike any other binding machine on the market. Not only is the Pioneer a first-rate PUR binding machine featuring the patented New Bind PUR system, but it is the only compact perfect binder capable of producing first quality case bound book blocks. Most professional level perfect binders have a true milling and notching station – this makes for strong bindings. However, it also makes these machines useless for case bound books as the milling wheel will cut endpapers in half. The Pioneer’s sophisticated, but straight-forward design enables it to mill the spine properly and keep the book’s endpapers intact.

The Pioneer’s unique design incorporates two PUR gluing systems, two milling and nothing stations, and a built-in vacuum assisted clamping mechanism. In ‘hardcover’ mode, this system lifts the endpapers up and away from the milling wheel. After milling the spine, the endpapers are dropped back down flush with the book block, and then glued to the first and last sheets of the book. The entire book block then travels through a PUR application head complete with spine and spine gluing, and then finally to the adjustable nipping station where a backing strip is pressed onto the spine. In ‘soft cover’ mode, the machine activates it’s right-side milling station, and perfect bound books are produced quickly and efficiently using the same system found in the New Bind Adventure series.

The New Bind Pioneer has been designed and built to accommodate the needs of the fast growing on-demand photography and art book market, as well as the needs of any bindery looking for a short-run book production solution. The Pioneer’s unique dual-purpose design and compact footprint make it especially appealing to existing digital print shops looking to add books to their product offerings.
