Follmann developed its first cleaner for printing machines

With the new Folco Cleaner FV 2021, Follmann is launching its first cleaner for printing machines, which is optimally matched to the company’s water-based printing inks for food packaging. As an expert in the development and manufacture of speciality chemicals, Follmann not only offers its customers a comprehensive product portfolio, but also individual solutions and a wide range of services. In the field of water-based printing inks, the company’s services range from analysis, colourimetry and process optimisation on site to advice on the implementation of dosing systems. In addition, the company shows its customers solutions and highlights potential savings for the reuse of residual inks.

With the new Folco Cleaner FV 2021, Follmann has now developed a cleaning product for the first time which is optimally matched to the water-based printing inks and thus perfectly complements the range. The cleaner can be used to remove ink residues from printing machines and their associated components efficiently, hygienically and in an environmentally friendly manner. ISEGA has classified it as food safe and therefore approved for use on printing machines for food packaging. During the development, Follmann also took care to use easily biodegradable raw materials in accordance with OECD guidelines.

“We are continuously working on expanding our range, as we want to offer our customers everything from a single source and thus a comprehensive no-hassle package. We are therefore pleased to be able to provide you with the right cleaner for our water-based printing inks’, says Roland Geiselhart, Director Business Unit Print + Packaging at Follmann. “We will also be launching a new range of water-based printing inks shortly, which we originally wanted to present at this year’s drupa.”

Follmann joins the European initiative CEFLEX

Follmann joined the collaborative initiative CEFLEX, which was founded in 2017 to enhance flexible packaging materials in the circular economy. The collaboration consists of various members across the value chain and has set itself the goal of making a positive contribution to the circular economy and the dissolution of a linear economy. By 2025, effective system solutions should be possible thanks to cooperation from all project members. Together, the stakeholders involved are developing both design specifications for consumer-friendly flexible packaging formats and business models for downstream infrastructures.

“With our product portfolio we are an integral part of the flexible packaging industry. In addition to adhesives, we produce water-based printing ink systems for flexible packaging made of paper and plastic. As a new member of the CEFLEX collaborative initiative, we would like to support the cooperation of all project partners and work towards the common sustainability goals”, says Dr Joerg Seubert, Managing Director at Follmann. “In cooperation with all stakeholders, we wish to modify our products in a system-relevant manner according to common sustainability guidelines in order to be part of the solution. Thanks to our bio-based hotmelts for producing paper coffee-to-go cups, we also have process engineering know-how that we, as a member of CEFLEX, would like to contribute across the value chain.”

Printing inks and coatings for the print and packaging industry

Colours and surfaces are important and persuasive vehicles when it comes to human perception, as they are noticed immediately. Whether for napkins or high-quality packaging in the food and non-food sector – with our water-based printing inks for flexographic and gravure printing, we not only offer you brilliant colour shades, but also an environmentally friendly and low-consumption alternative to solvent-based inks. Our water-based printing inks are used, for example, in table decoration products such as napkins, tablecloths and placemats or in flexible film and paper packaging.

Scent varnishes, which can, for example, be printed on flyers, postcards, magazine pages and packaging to boost the advertising message and thus increase sales, round off the portfolio.
