UV Curing Tester UV CURE CHECK

The UV Curing Tester UV CURE CHECK determines the curing degree of UV and hybrid inks or UV varnishes extremely quickly by determining the coefficient of sliding friction.

Intended for use on a measuring table, the press control console or on the printed sheet pile, the device cannot only determine meaningful values in solid ink areas with the push of a button, but also in ordinary printed images.

Measurements with the UV CURE CHECK verify that the UV illumination has stimulated the photoinitiators in the ink or varnish and led to sufficient polymerization. It is thus possible to counteract harmful migrations escaping from the sheet and to control if inks could block and smear during print finishing or transport.

The device helps optimise the UV emitter output, thereby saving energy and working environmentally friendly.

Contact Zone Measuring System NIP CON SMART

The Contact Zone Measuring System NIP CON SMART is used to precisely determine the contact zone width (NIP width or contact pressure) between elastic and hard rollers. It is therefore ideal for checking and correcting the setting of dampening rollers and inking rollers in printing presses. The device can also be used for corresponding paired rollers in other processing machines.

High Precision Measurement

The measurement is carried out simultaneously with two sensors on the drive and operator side respectively so that the results can be observed instantly at both sides when correcting the roller setting. The extremely lightweight sensors allow operation by only one person.
The system takes the critical roller parameters into account when calculating the real contact zone width and thus achieves a more exact match with visually inspected strip widths as well as a parallel alignment of the rollers to each other in the inking unit or dampening unit. The set-up process is not only more precise than with a visual assessment, but also saves a considerable amount of time.

Innovative Operating Concept and Data Handling

The printing press roller diagram is created only once on the PC and is used on the tablet for convenient operation and visualisation. Measuring points are selected on the touchscreen and measured results are differentiated by colour. All results can be easily compiled in protocols or evaluated on the PC for further analysis. The possible integration of the system into a user’s existing network is an important requirement. The considerable time saving achieved in comparison with visual inspection and set-up of the rollers is a further economic effect.

Packing Gauge AMG

The Packing Gauge AMG quickly measures the height of the blanket or printing plate above the bearer ring, even with poor accessibility. It is also suitable for varnish plates or flexography clichés.

The Packing Gauge AMG is suitable for any cylinder diameter and is available in sizes S, M, and L. The AMG measures and digitally displays the height of the blanket or the printing plate above the bearer or measuring ring of plate or blanket cylinders. The AMG L can even be used for measuring the height of varnish plates or flexography clichés.

Due to its convenient size, the device can be placed on the printing plate or blanket with only one hand and can be used without it needing to be rotated or moved.

This allows the measured values to be precisely recorded without any influence due to pressure variations or inaccurate cylinder parallelism during placement. The measured values can be saved due to the hold function during the measurement and easily read outside of the press. The measurement uncertainty is up to ± 0.01 mm (± 0.0005 inches).

The packing height is extremely important for ink transfer. This has a decisive influence on the printing process and the dot gain. By quickly measuring the packing height, make-ready time is significantly reduced and production stability and print quality are ensured.

Register Measuring System LUCHS IV

The LUCHS IV Register Measuring System determines transfer register, feed register or positional accuracy between the front and reverse of a sheet within seconds. It is used for quality control on offset presses, in digital printing, on flexographic presses and varnishing units.

Today, the system is used worldwide for the quality control, adjustment and error analysis of printing presses. Optionally, the device can be used to measure the folding and cutting register as well. The measurement is carried out by recording and analysing special measuring elements located at different positions on the printed sheet and takes fractions of a second to complete. The measuring elements are uniquely identified by their own separate code. The fully automatic analysis assigns the measured results to the different printing units and positions on the printed sheet and summarises the results in various graphs. This allows a simple statistical assessment to be made.

The latest innovation is the integration of special lighting for determining the "varnish register", meaning detecting the position of an applied varnish in relation to the printed image. With this additional function, the prerequisites have been created for checking finishing processes at press manufacturers and end users. Whereas its use was previously "limited" to printing units, varnishing units can now also be easily checked for accuracy. The LUCHS IV Register Measuring System has become indispensable thanks to its precision for assessing print quality during press acceptance tests.

The now fourth generation of the LUCHS Register Measuring System features a completely new device concept and new measuring elements. The scope of delivery is comprised of only the hand-held measuring head - connectable to an already available laptop by USB.

Perfect Binding Tester BIND CONTROL for Pulltest

The BIND CONTROL is a compact pull tester for easily, quickly and accurately testing the quality of a perfect bound product.

The tester is intended to measure and quantifiably evaluate the sheet pull-out strength of book blocks and is the first device that measures a trimmed book block of a uniform spine width.

The BIND CONTROL makes it possible to evaluate the optimal setting of book block making machines and to determine the strength of the book block as a parameter of the quality of the perfect binding or saddle stitching. At the same time, the strength of the head and foot of the book block can be determined separately for comparison. Optionally, the measuring device can also be used to determine the residual strength in the fold.

In the results, the measured traction force per centimeter is indicated on the display as well as different calculated statistical analyses and quality ratings. 

Exporting of the measurement and analysis data to a PC is easily done and clearly recommended. This allows the possibility of monitoring and protocoling the reached pull values within a quality management system. Any flaws in the system can be tracked and preventive actions can be carried out to ensure the highest quality of the end products.

Automatic Printing Plate Bender APB

The Automatic Printing Plate Bender makes it possible to bend an offset printing plate with unrivalled precision by referencing the position of the printing image, independent of any format variations of the plate itself. In this way, an absolutely precise and axially parallel printing image position is achieved after mounting on the sleeve or plate cylinder. 

Using two practicably invisible measuring elements imaged on the edge of the printing plate, the current position of the printing image is determined with micrometer accuracy. A fully automatic positioning system brings the plate iteratively into the optimal position before bending. After arriving at the ideal position, the bending process is carried out automatically.

The printing make-ready process is in this way considerably shortened, especially with offset printing presses where the bended edge determines the position and the parallelism of the printing plate, saving time and reducing waste. The register is in the correct position immediately upon starting the press.

Separating Force Gauge PEEL CONTROL

The Separating Force Gauge PEEL CONTROL is intended to measure the opening force of peelable, seam sealed packaging or the peeling force of materials that have been glued, heat-sealed or laminated together.

The calculated force values allow the comparison to defined setpoints and can be used for quality control purposes during production.

The handheld device is ideally used directly on the packaging machine.

After fixing the test object with the clamping device, the opening or the separating process is carried out by hand. All significant traction force parameters are calculated, like the force distribution subject to the measurement time and the opening path, and are graphically displayed.

In order to determine the adhesive strength, the device can calculate the necessary force for separating a laminated surface which excludes the subjective influence of an undefined adhesive.

The measuring device is thus perfectly suited for packaging testing, in particular the seal strength and the adhesion of a foil on the surface of cups and trays. Other adhesions, laminations or linings can also be checked for their quality. The PEEL CONTROL can be used to objectify the results of Tesa tests.

With the data export of the measurement results and analysis to a PC, continuous monitoring of the achieved strength values within a quality management system can be realized effortlessly.

Hand-held IPA Measuring Device IPA CONTROL EXACT

The hand-held IPA Measuring Device IPA CONTROL EXACT determines the content of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) in the dampening solution of offset presses quickly, easily and very accurately.

Altogether, the volume concentration of up to 8 percent can be precisely measured. A special gas sensor determines the isopropyl alcohol concentration in evaporated dampening solution based on the gas extraction principle. Using this measured value, the IPA concentration in the dampening solution sample is calculated with the use of calibration formulas and the sample temperature and is displayed. Samples can be taken at any point in the dampening solution circulation.

The measuring principle ensures that other additives and contaminants in the dampening solution have as little influence as possible on the measurement result.

Nowadays, the precise determination of IPA as an additive to the dampening solution in offset printing is becoming increasingly important in order to avoid overdosing and thus reduce costs and protect the environment.

Contact Pressure Tester CONPRESS II

With the Contact Pressure Tester CONPRESS II, the contact pressure force of bearer rings between printing press cylinders is checked. For this purpose, the current actual values are compared with defined target values. It has proven its worth in the assembly and servicing of printing presses worldwide.

A very thin, fine paper measurement strip is pressed between the activated bearer rings. The resulting line or roll impact is analysed optoelectronically. For roller impacts, the device is able to provide information about the pressure distribution along the width of the bearer ring contact zone.

Based on the analysis, the printing press settings can be optimised, ensuring consistent print quality and prolonging the lifetime of the cylinder bearers. The device is indispensable during initial installation, maintenance and servicing for checking and adjusting the pressure preload.

Gap Gauge GAP CONTROL

The Gap Gauge GAP CONTROL measures the spacing between rollers or cylinders starting from a distance of 1.8 mm. In addition, the width of slots and gaps in mechanical components can be precisely determined.

Considerable importance was placed on the easy handling of device: When the measuring probe (measurement wedge) is inserted into a gap, the gap width can be read off the display of the device with micrometer precision.

Due to its high precision and fast measurement, the GAP CONTROL replaces the need for using feeler gauges or gauge blocks. There is simply no easier way to measure gap distances. It is an important time-saving tool when measuring and adjusting distances.

Register Measuring Head RMK

The register measuring method of the RMK offers a measurement with almost invisible, coded micro-marks and the highest precision. This means that it can be used in sheetfed offset printing presses integrated inline and also using the hand-held measuring head for measurement at the control console.

The measurement marks can be placed inside narrow print control bars. This makes start-up waste a thing of the past. The integrated measuring mark encoding allows, for example, for the assignment of the printing units, the measuring position on the sheet as well as the recognition of the front and back side of the sheet.

For an external offline measurement, the separate Register Measuring Head RMK is available. It is characterised by a large field of view, a large measuring range and is activated simply by lifting it up. The measurement occurs automatically after positioning the measuring head on a measuring mark and its completion is signalled optically and/or acoustically.

The camera system of the measuring head can even be used as a video magnifier for controlling the print quality.

When changing jobs and during make-ready, the system significantly reduces set-up time. During operation, its high precision ensures the highest print quality throughout the production process.

2D Measuring System MICRO CONTROL

The 2D Measuring System MICRO CONTROL determines dimensions and shapes of objects of various sizes by simple means and extremely low cost with a resolution in the micrometer range. Length and width, diameter, angle, straightness and parallelism, for example, can be determined from the preferably flat measuring objects, if necessary also in very large dimensions of several meters. Materials from the printing industry such as paper, cardboard or paperboard as well as plastics, metals and other components can be measured. The extremely easy-to-use measuring system determines the positions of contour points of a test object that is placed on a coordinate system. By evaluating the precisely determined contour points, the desired measured dimensions, such as length, angle or linearity deviations, can then be calculated.

The scope of delivery includes a calibrated coordinate system in the size required for the measurement task and a commercially available smartphone with a suitable measurement stand. In addition, a variety of measuring tools for contacting the measured object, also provided with their own coordinate system, special PC software and an app for the smartphone are supplied. After selecting the specific measurement task on the smartphone, the individual measurements are carried out via menu navigation. In each case, a combined camera image is generated from the coordinate system of the measuring tool and simultaneously from the underlying reference system, which is used to determine the exact position of the measuring tool or the contour of the test object being measured. After performing all required measurements, the result is displayed and saved. The data can be exported to a PC for protocol generation.

Overall, the system represents an extremely cost-effective option for very accurate two-dimensional measurements of objects, including in some cases very flat objects.

PITSID Now Online at virtual.drupa

Following the postponement of drupa 2020 to April 2021 and the event's subsequent cancellation at the Düsseldorf exhibition center, PITSID Polygraphische innovative Technik Leipzig GmbH, a sister company of the Sächsisches Institut für die Druckindustrie (SID), has confirmed its participation in the online virtual.drupa event. The industry trade show, which will be held from April 20-23, will take place entirely digitally. Visitors can find out more about the exhibitors' offerings at the virtual trade show booths and exchange information during the show via video conferences on a platform provided by Messe Düsseldorf.

Since its founding in 1999, PITSID has participated in all previous drupas and is looking forward to welcoming interested participants to the upcoming event again this year. Held for the first time in this form, the event is a new experience for all involved, both exhibitors and visitors.

PITSID will present its complete product range, developed in cooperation with SID, at the virtual booth. These include devices and systems for measuring, testing and evaluating register, contact and tensile forces, packing height and nip widths. The range of products also includes devices for roller adjustment, high-precision bending of offset printing plates, UV curing and pull testing. State-of-the-art analysis methods determine the relevant values such as force, displacement, distance or coefficient of friction.

These measuring devices belong to the standard equipment used by printers and printing press and finishing machine manufacturers, as they significantly contribute to minimizing make-ready times and ensure the quality of the finished products. Users all over the world trust the competence and expertise reflected in the PITSID devices.

As a special highlight, several videos were produced in advance for different systems, highlighting their advantages and demonstrating how they operate. Particular attention was paid to the clear presentation of their usage.

Despite the restrictions on in-person interaction and to comply with pandemic-related regulations, PITSID expects virtual.drupa to be well received by guests.
